As An Earth Keeper ~ It is with great honor to share these teachings I have been taught upon my Earth Walk, Initiation into Lakota Spirituality and the many teachings of Jaime Sams, phD, Seneca, Dreamtime Sister and Author of many books... My Journey with Horses has been for a LifeTime ... I created all images myself in the year 2024, Wood Dragon, a celebration of the story's that I wrote starting in 1987 , that never had images, until now. These images are unique carrying the Medicine of Hope for all of Humanity, that we Remember Our Worth, and become in balance with All Our Relations! It starts by understanding each living force, and respecting them as Sacred. Wisdom of Native American Teachings of Horse Medicine In Native American traditions, animals are viewed as spiritual beings possessing wisdom that can teach humans, establishing a deep connection between the human and animal worlds. Horses hold a particularly significant and sacred place, often revered as "God Dogs". This reverence stems from the powerful partnership between horse and rider, which is seen as a relationship built on mutual trust, respect, and reciprocity, often viewed as a spiritual alliance where the horse acts as a vital guide and companion. Horse medicine in Native American teachings emphasizes: Being true to oneself. Living in the present moment. Expressing gratitude for the people in one's life. Symbolizing freedom, power, authority, and success, especially in the context of battle and movement, where horses enabled tribes to become powerful mounted warriors and nomads. Crucial roles in spiritual journeys, with shamans often depicted riding flying horses to traverse safely between the physical and spirit worlds. This symbolizes the ability to overcome difficult situations and access visionary gifts. The interconnectedness of healing, where medical practices for humans and horses often overlapped, reflecting a holistic view of health where the well-being of one is linked to the other. A powerful lesson in setting healthy boundaries and allowing others to become independent, exemplified by the mare weaning her colt without human influence. The concept of animal totems is central, where a totem animal is a spirit being connected to a person for life, acting as a main guardian spirit that conveys wisdom and direction. This spiritual bond, often discovered through recurring dreams or significant encounters, is considered sacred and provides insight, strength, and guidance.
