Government House grounds - Gowrie Garden
In the second part of our series on the Government House grounds, Mrs Hurley introduces the Gowrie Garden and talks about what makes it special. Lady Gowrie, the wife of Australia's 10th Governor-General, constructed the garden as a memorial to her son Patrick, who was killed while serving in the Second World War. She was assisted by a close friend, Ethel Anderson and a Government House groundskeeper. Their labour of love created both a lasting tribute and a stunningly beautiful spot, which is today enjoyed by the tens of thousands of guests that the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley welcome to Government House every year.
