Fresh from Overhaul - Weathering an Express Locomotive

Fresh from Overhaul - Weathering an Express Steam Locomotive This week I weathered my Princess Coronation class locomotive. I attempted to give the engine’s boiler, cab and tender sides a clean and polished look, with some the inevitable build up of grime just starting to accumulate after a few runs. 1 - I used my airbrush to spray the wheels, underframe and front end a 50/50 mix of Tamiya grey and black. 2 - I used a 50/50 mix of Tamiya brown and Railmatch Rust to spray the tender interior and highlight grime on the underframe and cylinder fronts. 3 - I cleaned the wheels using Isopropol Alcohol, a 9V battery and a cotton bud. 4 - I used T-Cut car paint restorer to give the engine’s boiler, cab sides and tender a glossy, shiny appearance. This worked better than I anticipated and up close looks like the paint had been polished with a greasy rag. I gently rubbed the T-Cut onto the model with a cotton bud, then gently removed any residue with a soft cloth. Be careful over the decals with this as the T-Cut can damage them if left on for a while and if you run too hard. 4 - I added Humbrol smoke weathering powder to the smokebox and cab roof to add a matte finish in contrast to the shiny polished boiler. 5 - I added coal to the tender and secured it with diluted PVA glue with a drop of washing up liquid. 6 - I added grease marks to the buffers using matte black paint and a cotton bud As always, thanks for watching.
