The 20th Annual Lifetime Achievement Award Gala will take place on October 26, 2012 at Tribeca Three Sixty° in New York City. Mr. Botero will attend this event. The Gala will bring together arts patrons and professionals to celebrate Mr. Botero’s remarkable career. The evening will consist of cocktails, dinner, and an awards ceremony. Remarks by David Ebony, Managing Editor of Art In America and Pierre Levai, President, Marlborough Gallery. Fernando Botero was born in Medellín, Colombia in 1932. He moved to Bogotá in 1951 and had his first show there the same year at Galeria Leo Matiz. His first retrospective took place in 1970 in Germany at museums in Baden Baden, Berlin, Dusseldorf and Hamburg. Since then, Botero has continually shown in museums all over the world and is best known for his paintings and sculptures of voluminous figures. ISC Board Chair and Master of Ceremonies Marc LeBaron said, “I am delighted to announce that Fernando Botero will be honored with the International Sculpture Center’s Lifetime Achievement Award this fall. He is a most deserving artist and incredible sculptor. Fernando’s work can be seen around the world. His influence and contributions to the art community are significant. Please join us for this exciting event on October 26, 2012.” The International Sculpture Center’s Board of Directors established the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991 to recognize individual sculptors who have made exemplary contributions to the field of sculpture. Candidates for the award are masters of sculptural processes and techniques who have devoted their careers to the development of a laudable body of work, as well as to the advancement of the sculpture field as a whole. Past recipients include Magdalena Abakanowicz, Fletcher Benton, Louise Bourgeois, Sir Anthony Caro, Elizabeth Catlett, John Chamberlain, Eduardo Chillida, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Mark di Suvero, Richard Hunt, Phillip King, William King, Manuel Neri, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, Nam June Paik, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Giò Pomodoro, Robert Rauschenberg, George Rickey, George Segal, Kenneth Snelson, Frank Stella, and William Tucker.
