Subject: Complaint Regarding Overcharging, Abuse and Misconduct by Pantry Staff and TTE – Golden Temple Mail (16/02/2026) We were traveling on the Golden Temple Mail Express on 16/02/2026. The train departed from Ambala Cantt Junction around 11 PM (exact time not remembered). During the journey, we ordered two biryanis. The pantry staff told us the price was ₹120 each. When I asked for a bill, he suddenly said, “Take it for ₹100.” I clearly told him I do not want a discount and that he should bring a proper bill and collect the full ₹120. He never brought the bill. We were hungry, but I did not want to eat without making proper payment, so I went to find him. When I found him, he and his colleague were selling food to other passengers. I ordered one veg meal and asked the price. He said ₹150. I again asked for a bill. The staff told me, “Leave it, don’t pay, eat it for free.” I refused and clearly said I do not want free food. I only want a proper bill for the amount you are charging so that I can confirm you are genuinely charging the same rates to all passengers. At that time, nearby passengers also started saying they were overcharged. One passenger said he was told ₹150 for a veg meal, but when he asked for a bill, the staff told him, “Leave it, take it for ₹80.” It became clear that they were overcharging and adjusting prices randomly, which appears to be fraud. When I went to complain to the TTE, the pantry staff falsely accused me of asking for free food. The video clearly shows I was ready to pay and was demanding a proper bill. The pantry staff also falsely claimed that I ordered five meals, whereas I only ordered two biryanis and one veg meal. The bill clearly mentions only one meal. If I had ordered five meals, there should have been five meals mentioned on the bill. The veg meal that was verbally quoted at ₹150 was later billed at ₹200 by adding unnecessary add-ons without proper explanation. When I explained this to the TTE, instead of listening to passengers, he defended the pantry staff. He accused me of wanting free food and said “people like you are habitual.” He addressed me disrespectfully using “tu” instead of “aap” and used abusive language, including mother-sister abuses. This is clearly audible in the video. I respectfully addressed him as “Sir” throughout the conversation. I even told him not to believe only me and to come to our coach and ask the other passengers whether overcharging was happening. Many passengers were ready to confirm it. However, he refused to come. Later, when I was speaking to the TTE outside the pantry area, the pantry staff pulled me inside the pantry so that other passengers could not hear the discussion. It felt as if the train was their personal property — as if the TTE was their protector and the pantry staff were free to do as they pleased. Instead of helping a passenger who raised a complaint, the TTE forced me to pay the overcharged amount and verbally abused me. He told me that “this is how it works here” and that I should quietly pay whatever is being charged. A Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) is a responsible and respected position in Indian Railways. Such abusive behavior, defending overcharging, and insulting a passenger who is asking for a bill is unacceptable. We also earn our money through hard work. Why should we be forced to pay inflated prices without transparency? The Government provides good railway services, but such corrupt practices by internal staff damage the reputation of the entire system. I request strict action against: The pantry staff for overcharging and refusing proper billing The TTE for abusive language, false allegations, intimidation, and misconduct For forcing payment of an overcharged amount I am ready to provide video evidence to support my complaint.
