There are two areas being highlighted by the National Hurricane Center Tuesday morning. 1. Off the East Coast A low pressure system may develop along an old frontal boundary off the Southeast Coast later this week. Forecast models suggest it could slowly move toward Georgia/Carolinas by the weekend. At this time, the primary concern appears to be the potential for heavy rainfall due to its slow movement. We will also monitor a tropical wave sliding through Florida later this week. It will travel through the Gulf this weekend, and while something weak is possible, it will likely just bring extra moisture early next week to the northern Gulf. 2. Eastern Tropical Atlantic A second disturbance is emerging far out in the eastern Atlantic. It is too early to determine its potential, as development is uncertain. However, some models suggest it could organize by the end of the week. If it develops into a named storm, it may warrant closer monitoring next week. It also remains possible that the system will curve out to sea. Additional disturbances are likely to appear over the next 1–2 weeks as conditions become more favorable for tropical development. The next names on the list are Erin and Fernand.
