In 1999, the company started selling the Draganflyer 2, a quadcopter with a gyro-only flight control system that relied on thermal sensors to identify the horizon and help maintain level flight. In 2001, the Draganflyer 2 was first equipped with a camera and the company started down the path towards the development of the modern drone. One of its platforms, the Draganflyer X4-ES is on display in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, recognized as the first drone to save a life. At AUVSI Xponential 2016, the company displayed the Draganflyer Commander, a lightweight, foldable quadcopter with interchangeable payloads for use in professional applications.
