Did Freud Make Everything About Sex? Limitations of Freud’s Theory especially how everyone thinks Freud was just a perv who made everything about sex. But in 1900 Vienna, a "cigar" was never just a cigar, or was it? Freud making "everything about sex" is the most criticized part of his legacy. But to understand why he focused on sex, you have to understand the deeply puritanical society he lived in; a world where women couldn't show their ankles and “pulling one out” was a common diagnosis. In this episode, we look at the Bearded Woman dream and what Freud got right what he missed as we deconstruct the limitations of Freud's theory through the bizarre case of "Herr Müller" -- a man who dreamt of being married, arrested, and seeing a bearded woman. What about the “Loosing your Teeth” dreams? Are those really about repressed sexual guilt? Or just anxiety about physical appearances? We discuss when Freud goes WAY TO FAR in his symbolic interpretations of “loosing your teeth” dreams. For viewers interested in Freudian dream analysis, psychoanalysis, dream symbolism explained, or the broader field of psychology of dreams, this chapter continues the project of Excavating the Unconscious, where I read the foundational texts of Psychoanalysis one great book at a time. Whether you’re drawn to Freud dream symbols, the hidden meaning of dreams, or the mechanics of the Dream-Work, this is a grounded introduction to the core ideas that built Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. Hi, my name is Vince, I’m a psychodynamic psychotherapist-in-training working my way through the foundational texts of psychoanalysis — one book, one chapter at a time. I’m starting with Freud and then continuing through Klein, Winnicott, Fairbairn, and eventually to modern analysts like Nancy McWilliams and Jonathan Shedler. This channel functions like a Great Books curriculum for the analytic tradition: close readings, dream-theory breakdowns, death-drive detours, honest reflections, and the occasional sharp turn into Lacan, Žižek, or wherever the unconscious wanders next. Let’s read some great books and learn together. #sigmundfreud #freud #psychoanalysis #psychology #ınterpretationofdreams #historyofpsychology #Philosophy #socialscience #CriticalTheory #FreudsTheory #VictorianRepression #SexualSymbolism #HerrMüllerDream, #BeardedWomanDream #RepressedDesires #unconsciousmind #IdEgoSuperego #FreudCaseStudies #PsychologyVideoEssay, #socialcontrol #CulturalAnalysis #systemsthinking #19thcenturyhistory
