Read more #COVIDWellbeing tips for lockdown on our website: https://www.cntw.nhs.uk/news/10-thing... Transcript: Hello, my name is David Storm. I'm associate director for access and community services in our north Cumbria locality, and I'd like to speak to you today about some ways to help with your well-being. I think during the pandemic we're faced with pressures and stressors and ways of working that we've really never experienced before, and these have and really continue to really challenge us all really - as ordinary people facing worries about our own health and our own families, and also of course the people that we support in our services. So I think it's really important for us to try and remember that; to take some time and try and protect some time for yourself to help your own well-being. So I wanted to talk to you today about some of those things, and one of the five ways to well-being includes a focus on hobbies that you might enjoy or maybe even learning something new that you can enjoy, particularly during the restrictions. You know, there's things that learning new things can give you - a really good sense of achievement, it helps you feel better about yourself, might boost your mood a little too. You might want to try and take up a new activity and learn some new things really, at any age, it's a good way to occupy yourself particularly where many of us are stuck at home and can't do the hobbies we might usually enjoy. So try your hand at something new. Maybe there's a hobby that you used to do that you can maybe try and revisit at home, and some of those might be like drawing or knitting. One of the things that I've kind of started getting back into is music; I used to enjoy and play in several bands and I found that getting back into music's something that's really helping me. And again it can be something really as big or small as you feel comfortable with. You might want to try learning a new language - a lot of people suggest that I might learn English! You might also try reading some articles that interest you or maybe even trying a new recipe. So set a goal that you feel comfortable with. It's really important then to set aside some time maybe every week to try and spend on that and try and enjoy that if you can. So as I said, I set myself a couple of challenges during lockdown. One of the things I've always wanted to do is bake bread, so I've been trying to do that, and also as I said been getting back into my music. And I find both of those hobbies have helped us a little bit unwind and use a kind of creative part of my brain that's a little bit different.
