2006 D Lincoln Cent (Penny) – “Sun” Design #2006Penny#LincolnCent#USCoin#OldCoins This channel CoinEmythHistory is all about Numismatic, antique and rare coins and notes. Here you find information about coins and notes which are antique and unique. Please subscribe CoinEmythHistory thank you The 2006 D Lincoln Cent, often referred to as the “Sun” coin in collectors’ circles, features the iconic portrait of Abraham Lincoln designed by Victor David Brenner. Struck at the Denver Mint (indicated by the “D” mintmark beneath the date), this coin continues the long-running Lincoln cent series that began in 1909. On the obverse, the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “LIBERTY,” and the year 2006 frame Lincoln’s bust, which captures fine details of his hair and clothing folds. The coin is made primarily of copper-plated zinc, giving it a bright reddish hue that can darken over time depending on circulation and storage conditions. The reverse (not shown) features the Lincoln Memorial, a design used from 1959 to 2008 before being replaced by the Lincoln Bicentennial series. A 2006 D penny typically holds face value in circulated condition but can be of interest to collectors if it shows strong luster, clean surfaces, or unique minting errors such as die cracks, off-center strikes, or double dies. Well-preserved examples graded MS65 or higher by PCGS or NGC may fetch modest premiums among numismatic enthusiasts.
