7/19/25 visiting the Flute Center of New York. Flute Kids tried open hole, B foot flutes for the first time. ❤️Tomomi & Tomoya loved the chamber workshop and played a piece they learned. They played from memory and the notes were all over the place. Tomoya wants an open hole flute like Nina's. Maybe in a few years? Flute Center of New York let us try the Muramatsu GX and Yamaha 6 series flute with a gold plated lip plate. I noticed no major difference in sound between the modern GX and our 50 year old Muramatsu. The Yamaha didn't sound as nice to me as the GX. Nina's flute was the Amadeus by Haynes. I felt it sounded a bit muffled and inconsistent, possibly because Tomoya isn't used to playing the Amadeus? We used flute plugs or else they would sound even worse. Even though an open hole flute would be ideal for improving their finger placement and adding flexibility to their technique but it's not possible right now nor is it pertinent. Trying other flutes lets Tomoya know his flute isn't so bad...
