BREAK-OFF - The first shot of the game, splitting the pack of balls up. MASTER BREAK - Potting a ball on the break-off shot and then making a clearance, in the same turn. Also known as a “break-and-run” or a “break-and-dish”. RAIL - The edge of the table. Also known as the “cushion”. POSITION - The location (or intended location) of the cueball. SIDE(-SPIN) - Hitting the cueball to the left or right side, so that it spins in that same direction when it hits the rail. Also known as “English”. RUNNING SIDE - Using side-spin such that the cueball moves faster off the rail, causing wider angle bounce CUSHION - See “rail”.
