As a franchise that started on Nintendo consoles, it should come as no surprise that Castlevania was one of the most requested third party franchises to join the fray before the inclusion of Simon and Richter in Ultimate. With its trademark whip and sub-weapon gameplay loop, it’s a Nintendo classic through and through, but while many folks wanted to see the Belmonts bring their rigid yet satisfying action platformer loop to the Battlefield of Smash, there’s another character that some would argue was even more sought after…a character that not only signified a permanent change in the Castlevania series, but also starred in what's often considered the best game in the series...Alucard! While the Belmonts might have gotten the playable role, it is confirmed that Sakurai initially considered Alucard thanks to his immense popularity. Thanks to this, I feel Alucard is a character that's going to remain popular in speculation cycles going into the next title, as should Castlevania come back, Alucard's chances of being playable are pretty high...but how exactly will the Vampire Prince set him apart from not only his Castlevania contemporaries, but also the many mixed-range swordfighters of Smash Bros?
