THE SANCTUARY HOMELESS SHELTER A different sort of shelter for the homeless- a shelter that makes a difference! “You can live without food or water, but you cannot live without a shelter – you cannot be on the streets!” said our guest today, “So I am so thankful for the Sanctuary as we have everything here”. Sanctuary started in 1993 God moved the hearts of a husband and wife and their pastor to find a way to care for the local homeless. What started in a room in the couples’ home soon expanded to a multi-apartment shelter in downtown Bryan, Ohio. Unlike most homeless shelters, which has big room with many bunk beds, the Sanctuary has four fully furnished apartment apartments which houses 16-21 people at a time. Our guests have four core rules -be clean, and stay clean, get a full-time job, we help them save up to 80 percent of their income to move their own apartment after finishing our program, we have very strong no drug/alcohol policy and finally we empower our guests heal from trauma through church and growth classes. Last year we housed 80 families and 85 people joined the workforce in our community last year. As the only homeless shelter in Williams County, we are very faithful to the calling to serve men, women and children in homelessness, but we can only do what we do because of the faithful partnership with the community members that we can keep our doors open, provide a safe, clean place for our men, women and children who have nowhere else to go. In serving the hurting, we are serving God. That’s why we exist, to offer hope and healing to people in people broken and homeless, all in the love of Christ.
