Jiřího z Poděbrad (Czech pronunciation: [ˈjɪr̝iːɦo ˈspoɟɛbrat]) is a Prague Metro station on Line A, located in Vinohrady, Prague 3. In January 2023 it closed for reconstruction. General information The station was named after the eponymous square it lies under, which was named after George of Poděbrady. Jiřího z Poděbrad is an underground trispan station. The main materials used on walls and ceilings are anodized aluminium, marble and granite. The only exit leads to an underground vestibule, which is connected with the platform by escalator tunnel. The station was opened on 19 December 1980 as part of the extension of the line between Náměstí Míru and Želivského. In January 2023 the station closed to undergo a year-long reconstruction, with trains passing through without stopping. The reconstruction will involve replacing the escalators and installing new lifts for step-free access. The station reopened in November 2023. In popular culture At the beginning of the Radiohead song "A Reminder," the female voice of the Metro's automated announcement system can be heard announcing this station. It is also used in the song "Mind the Gap" by Calexico. Muzeum (Czech pronunciation: [ˈmuzɛ.um]) is a Prague Metro station providing the interchange between Lines A and C, and serving the National Museum. It is located at the top end of Wenceslas Square. The Line C station was opened on 9 May 1974, with the first section of the Prague Metro, between Sokolovská and Kačerov. It is a single hall station, 194 metres (636 ft) long and only 10 metres (33 ft) deep. Two escalators and a staircase go to the vestibule. The Line A station was opened on 12 August 1978 as part of the inaugural section of Line A, between Leninova and Náměstí Míru. It is a three-bore station with a shortened, 69-metre (226 ft) middle tunnel. It is 108 metres (354 ft) long and 34 metres (112 ft) deep. The station at Line A was damaged during the 2002 floods and station at Line C was terminus. Line A (Czech: Linka A) is a line of the Prague Metro, serving the Czech capital. Chronologically the second line in the system, it was first opened in 1978 and has expanded mostly during the 1980s. With the opening of the extension to Nemocnice Motol on 6 April 2015, Line A operates on approximately 17.1 kilometres (10.6 mi) of route and serves 17 stations. An extension with a further five stations to the airport is currently planned. Future The first phase of a CZK18.7 billion extension on the west end of the A line, from Dejvická to Nemocnice Motol, was opened to the public on the afternoon of 6 April 2015. The second phase of this extension was expected to extend the line to Václav Havel Airport Prague. In 2015, it was announced that rail was the preferred option of connecting the city with the airport. History Construction of the first segment started in 1973, part of this segment was also a tunnel connecting this line with the already existing Line C between Muzeum and Náměstí Míru stations. After completion of the second section, work was started on the extension to the new metro depot at Hostivař. The 3.4 kilometres (2.1 mi) long tunnel was completed in 1985, and the second tube in 1987 with the new station Strašnická on that line.
