Welcome to Mark and Linda’s X Adventures! In this travel vlog we explore one of the most fascinating streets in Japan — Omotesando Street in Narita. Located just minutes from Narita International Airport and right outside JR Narita Station, this historic street is filled with amazing Japanese street food, unique vending machines, surprising cultural moments, and hidden gems that many travelers never see. If you are visiting Japan and passing through Narita Airport, you might not realize that one of the most interesting traditional streets in the region is only a few minutes away. Narita Omotesando Street leads to the famous Naritasan Shinshoji Temple and has welcomed travelers for centuries. Today it is packed with restaurants, snack stalls, souvenir shops, local foods, and some of the most interesting vending machines in Japan. In this episode we take a relaxed walk down the street so viewers can truly feel like they are there with us. This is not a fast paced highlight reel. Our video is over 37 minutes long and filmed in stunning 4K 60fps so you can experience the real atmosphere of Narita, Japan as if you were walking beside us. Along the way we discover several incredible Japanese street foods. One of the highlights is fire grilled scallops cooked dramatically over open flames. Linda absolutely loves these fresh scallops and they might be one of the best street foods we have found in Japan so far. We also encounter some unusual foods including cod roe sandwiches and charcoal grilled rice cakes sold along the street. Linda also tries an oversized Japanese rice cracker which turns out to be surprisingly sweet. It seems like many snacks in Japan have a sweetness to them that visitors might not expect. Another thing that stands out immediately is the number of vending machines everywhere. Japan is famous for having more vending machines than almost anywhere else in the world, and Omotesando Street shows exactly why. We see machines selling hot corn soup, canned coffee drinks, tea, sports drinks, and even a mysterious pink drink labeled Vitamin W. Of course we also spot the famous Japanese sports drink Pocari Sweat, which we jokingly wonder if it might literally be a bottle of someone’s sweat. One of the most surprising discoveries is the number of cigarette vending machines. In many countries these disappeared decades ago, but in Japan they are still very common. We find machines selling brands like Marlboro, Winston, Parliament and others for around 540 to 600 yen per pack. Compared to prices in the United States that often exceed ten dollars per pack, this was definitely unexpected. As we continue exploring the street we stumble upon a traditional monkey show. We arrive right as the performance is ending and get to meet a very sweet female monkey who charms the small crowd gathered on the street. Moments like this are what make exploring Japan so unique and memorable. Another fun stop along the street is a cool cat wearing sunglasses that has become a popular selfie opportunity for visitors walking through the area. People constantly stop to take pictures with this stylish feline. Narita is also famous throughout Japan for its grilled eel restaurants. Many historic restaurants along Omotesando specialize in traditional grilled eel known as unagi. In this video we walk toward one of the most famous eel restaurants in Narita, but we save that full experience for our next video where we will explore the world famous Narita eel cuisine. One unique feature of Mark and Linda’s X Adventures is that our videos are translated and dubbed into 22 languages.
