Wondering how to support black-owned businesses while you're buying your weed? You can invest in black-owned businesses every time you stock up on pot. There's no question that the time is long overdue for those who are most affected by the criminalization of cannabis to have opportunities in the recreational marijuana industry. Let's talk about black women business owners like The Farmacy's Sue Taylor (whose cannabis companies are, bonus points, black-owned businesses in the bay Area) and other black business owners (and celebrities) like Mike Tyson and 2 Chainz. Support black business owners and the new Black Wall Street in cannabis. These 5 entrepreneurs are inspirational, and I'd love to signal-boost them and remind everyone that they're out there. Let's keep them going through the Coronavirus crisis. TRANSCRIPT: Hi, all. Welcome to Witches’ Weeds. Normally, I talk about cannabis, not current events. Unfortunately, the cannabis sativa plant has been politicized by the War on Drugs, and it’s caused a lot of issues in the United States that we’re still grappling with decades later. Here’s the facts: black and white people use marijuana at similar rates. Despite that, black people are almost four times more likely to be arrested for it. (aclu.org) How do we fix this? Getting rid of unfair drug laws is the end goal, but there are some other things we can do in the meantime, and every bit helps. Let’s talk about 5 great black-owned cannabis companies that you can start supporting today. Number one: Estrohaze Estrohaze is an online lifestyle magazine founded by Sirita Wright, Kali Wilder, and Safon Floyd. They publish female-centered articles that aim to teach their audience about cannabis while keeping it fun. They publish pieces on the business and lifestyle beats. Mama Sue Wellness Mama Sue Wellness is a high-end tincture company. They sell marijuana-derived CBD tinctures, inclduign some with added CBN—which are great for sleep. Mama Sue was started by 72-year-old cannabis entrepreneur Sue Taylor, who also owns the Farmacy Dispensary in Berkeley, California. Gas Cannabis Co Gas Cannabis Co was founded by 2 Chainz, a famous rapper who’s been featured on songs by everyone from Kanye West to Jason Derulo. Gas sells buds and prerolls, and let me tell you—it’s really good stuff. I give it the Witches’ Weeds stamp of approval. The Minority Cannabis Business Association Setting up strong networks is crucial to success. Finding your own group of peers when you’re entering a new industry helps, and the Minority Cannabis Business Association is here to provide that. They hold networking events and connect businesses owner to prospective employees, and they also use their platform to reach out to legislators and advocate for fair cannabis laws. Tyson Ranch Remember that insane boxer who bit some dude’s ear off? Yeah, he’s got a cannabis company now. I don’t know if Mike Tyson has mellowed with age, but his mellow buds are strong and fragrant, and I’ve only heard positive things. Just be careful around the business owner himself. Thanks for watching! Let me know in the comments if you have a favorite cannabis company that you’d like me to highlight in a future video. See you next time!
