A brief book tour of Ivan Goncharov's little-known and very under-appreciated 1859 satirical novel, OBLOMOV, from which grew the name of a "disease"--OBLOMOVITIS--long conflated with idleness, laziness and anti-social behavior. In this video I make the case for why it is the most relevant and relatable of the many great 19th-century Russian novels: it depicts attachment styles in situationships, advocates for quiet quitting, debates whether change is possible through self-help, and adopts almost a "be here now" level of mindfulness.
