LSU's undefeated 2026 start and 16-game winning streak (dating back to their 2025 National Championship run) ended with a 7-6 loss to McNeese on Tuesday, February 24, at Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers dropped the game due to a combination of early pitching collapses and defensive miscues: Pitching Struggles (Free Bases): LSU used 10 different pitchers, many of whom struggled with command. The staff combined for 11 free passes, including six walks and five hit batters. A "Nightmare" Second Inning: After taking a 2-0 lead on a Zach Yorke home run, freshman starter Marcos Paz loaded the bases with two outs in the second via walks and hit batters. McNeese capitalized on a wild pitch and a two-run single by Danny Barbero to take a 4-2 lead. The "Midweek Curse": Coach Jay Johnson noted that "we just gave up way too many free bases". The Tigers fell into a 7-2 hole by the fourth inning following further hit batsmen and a fielding error in right field by Jake Brown. Late Rally Fell Short: LSU fought back with runs in the 5th, 6th, and 8th innings—including a solo homer by John Pearson to make it 7-6. In the bottom of the 9th, Seth Dardar hit a fly ball that was caught on the warning track, ending the comeback bid.
