You weren't making headway and you had a fundamental theological background. Tell us what happened. Brian Simmons I know now what a missionary needs the most is the Holy Spirit, and a relationship of the Holy Spirit. The anointing, that biblical term, the anointing of the Holy Spirit. I did not have that. I had the Word of God and I thought, “Well that's all I need is the word plus nothing.” I now know it's the Word and Spirit. So, I got desperate one night under the mosquito net, praying all night. I said, “Lord, you've got to come and reach these people. You sent us here to reach this village.” He spoke to me – not audibly - but He spoke to me and said, “I did not bring you here to reach these people. I brought you here to reach you. If I could reach you, I could reach anyone.” It just busted my heart, I spilled open, I poured out my heart that early morning. I went through the village and I asked every single person, from dawn to dusk. I asked every person to forgive me for not showing them the love of Christ and being the representative of God's Son. I wasn't reflecting Him and would they As I gave them the pure gospel, they started crying and the village was just in an uproar. The Holy Spirit over the next 48 hours swept through. He reached that village, virtually converting every person. God is faithful. The key to revival is you being revived. If revival depends on you, how close are we? The key to revival is you being revived, it's the heart. When God breaks through one heart, then He can pour out and touch a city, He can touch and influence an entire segment of our culture. He has more than enough resources. He's looking for a dispenser. He's looking for an outlet. If we will humble our heart and turn back to Him, He can pour out of us like a mighty river of Ezekiel, and can convert and bring life and healing. Brian Simmons Yeah, like so many others, I had avoided that book, I skipped over that, along with the genealogies and Leviticus. I confess, as I read through the Bible, I just I missed Song of Songs - eight chapters that I virtually skipped over. In the early 90s Mike Bickle began to teach on the Song of Songs. I decided to dive into the book myself. I bought commentaries, I did research and then I wrote a book called, “The Journey of the Bride.” It really launched me into this passion to know God intimately. I honestly had so many encounters with the Holy Spirit that He taught me through that book. I knew when I started The Passion Translation that Song of Songs would be the first book I wanted to tackle. Thanks for asking that question. I think we can tell new believers to start with the heart of the Bible which is the Song of Songs. The arteries go out into the gospel, Pauline theology, and into the Old Testament histories. The heartbeat of heaven is divine romance. Jesus is the King and we're the Shulamite. Solomon and Shulamite is the same Hebrew word.
