Here’s my favorite sequence from “An American Haunting” (2005) – an old fashioned ghost story, based on actual events that took place in Tennessee in the early 1800s. It’s not a masterpiece, but I enjoyed it. Warning: this film has been rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America. It contains intense terror sequences that may be considered too shocking for children under the age of 13. It’s 1817. John Bell, a prosperous farmer, lives with his wife and children near the Red River in Tennessee. After a property dispute, John Bell is cursed by his eccentric neighbor woman Kate Batts. From that moment on, the Bell family is visited and tormented by an evil and violent spirit. John’s daughter Betsy is the principal target. In this movie clip John’s friend James tries to exorcize the demon from the house. Cast: Donald Sutherland as John Bell, Sissy Spacek as Lucy, Rachel Hurd-Wood as Betsy and Matthew Marsh as James.
