🔥The Fireplace I Roundtable Edition Skilled migrants across Australia are being locked out of the professions they trained for, despite widespread skills shortages. In this episode of The Fireplace, Dane Moores unpacks how Australia’s broken skills recognition system is costing the economy billions - and holding people back. Drawing on new research and lived experiences, Dane shares powerful stories of untapped migrant talent, explains the Activate Australia’s Skills campaign, and outlines practical reforms that could finally fix a system decades in the making. A timely conversation about fairness, productivity, and unlocking potential. BIOGRAPHY Dane is the Head of Strategic Relations at SSI, where he leads the organisation's advocacy and government relations work to drive policy reform towards a fairer, more inclusive Australia. Dane is the campaign director of Activate Australia's Skills (www.activateaustralia.org.au), a national alliance campaign comprised of more than 130 organisations all pushing to reform Australia's system for recognising overseas skills and qualifications so it is faster, fairer and more affordable. Over the past fifteen years Dane has worked in policy and advocacy roles across the public, private and NGO sectors on a range of issues, including economic participation, international development, climate change, innovation and women's safety. He is currently completing his MBA in Social Impact as the inaugural Community Leader Scholar at the UNSW Business School. Dane is a former Rotary World Peace Fellow, Global Shaper with the World Economic Forum, and Chant Legacy Scholar with the Governance Institute of Australia.
