Tim Mosso finally has his grail watch, and he's sharing full details on tonight's episode. A grail watch is not something that happens every day. Even to an advanced watch collector with budget and passion to match, the very idea of a grail entails a luxury watch at the limit of availability and affordability. Tonight, Tim takes his viewers on a journey from the definition of a grail watch to a discussion of his newly arrived De Bethune. Tim fell in love with De Bethune between 2014 and 2016 - long before he had any firsthand experience with the brand's watches. But in 2016, an opportunity to encounter a DB28 Kind of Blue convinced Tim that of the thousands of watches and at least 100 brands he had encountered at that time, De Bethune was where his heart belonged. Although initially infatuated with the De Bethune DB28 Digitale (too large!) and then the DB27 Polo (too rare!), Tim found his soul mate in the DBD, a jump hour with a digital inline calendar and caseback moonphase. De Bethune watches aren't common. Around 4,000 De Bethune watches of all descriptions have been built since 2002, and only around 330 were built in 2024. The De Bethune DBD is scarcer by far; only 72 examples of this inline calendar jump hour watch have been made since 2006. The white gold model with anthracite dial was made in only nine examples; Tim now owns one of them. The rare and haute horlogerie watch features superb wrist fit, a design Tim adores, and all of the De Bethune engineering toys. There's a five-day power reserve, a spherical moonphase made of palladium and blue steel, a triple pare-chute shock protection system, a patented balance wheel with patented hairspring curve. The manual-wind watch cannot be over-wound by accident, and the self-adjusting twin mainspring barrels are protected by - you guessed it - a patent. Perhaps most importantly, this De Bethune DB Digitale was located by the De Bethune factory itself before being made available to Tim. De Bethune's team had paid enough attention to Tim's YouTube watch reviews that they new which generation, case metal, and dial variant of the DBD Tim favored, and they found it for him. Denis Flageollet, watchmaker and founder of De Bethune, hand-wrote a delivery letter for Tim using a fountain pen. This was the ultimate independent brand watch experience, and Tim now considers the De Bethune team in Switzerland to be like family.
