I travelled back on Bute today after a week away for work. There wasn’t any wind on the mainland, but seeing the breeze ruffling the leaves on the trees on Bute put a smile on my face. There was only just enough wind at Ardbeg point, and nothing at all round at Port Bannatyne. So I quickly loaded up the car and headed for the beach at Ardbeg Point. I rigged up the 8m and was in the water in no time. I pumped myself up onto the foil on my first outbound run, but couldn’t achieve take off on the return leg whilst running with the tide. The wind was only just strong enough, and I had to try and time my runs with little gusts. It was a fun session thorough, other than the fact that the mount on my camera broke off mid-session. Things I learned today: When the tide is coming in, there is a bit of current where the water gets shallow just off the center of the point. Dropping the pressure on the leading edge of the wing to 7psi does seem to make the pumping a bit easier, the theory being that the looser wing is capturing more air / spilling less. My arms need to get stronger, or I need to start using a harness, or both. I think my arm strength is limiting my upwind speed and stamina
