The Blackburn Cubaroo was one of the largest single-engine designs of the 1920s. In response to an Air Ministry specification for a new torpedo bomber, Blackburn wanted to use the new experimental Napier Cub engine (a one tonne, 60 litre, 16-cylinder beast) to power their prototype, instead of relying on two smaller less powerful engines. Designed by F.A. Bumpus, it was an impressive sight to behold when it finally rolled out of the hangar. Despite its huge size, it was reportedly easy to handle in flight and had a surprisingly short take-off and landing distance. Though it could carry a 21-inch torpedo over long distances with ease, the aircraft never entered production as the Air Ministry was now favouring smaller torpedoes and twin-engine aircraft designs. *** Producing these videos is a hobby of mine. I have a passion for history, and personally own a large collection of books, journals and other texts, and endeavor to do as much research as possible. However if there are any mistakes, please don't hesitate to reach out and correct anything :) Sources: https://www.amazon.com/Blackburn-Airc... https://www.amazon.com/British-Bomber...
