Thank you for your support! --TRANSCRIPT-- Thanks for stopping by, this is 2 minute classroom and today we are answering the question “what is biology?” I love biology. I studied biology in college, taught biology to high school students, and now teach biology (among other things) right here on YouTube. And if you want to save time in school, consider subscribing. So what is biology? Bio means life and -ology means “study of” so biology literally means the study of life. Biology is the study of all living organisms (and dead organisms, like fossils). Biology looks at how these organisms form, develop and interact with each other and their environment. This includes all life; Humans, insects, plants, fungi, bacteria, anything that needs nutrients to survive. Biology covers life on a small microscopic scale, looking at cells, DNA, proteins, and other tiny compounds critical to life. Areas of study within biology that cover the microscopic include cellular biology, physiology, botany, and my personal favorite, genetics. Biology also studies life on the large macroscopic scale, looking at whole organisms and how they interact with each other and their environment. Areas of study within biology that cover the macroscopic include ecology, evolution, paleontology, and eugenics.
