Rex Chan is the founder of the TASK humanoid robot project. He focuses on developing open-source humanoid robots, with the vision of enabling more people to 3D-print and assemble their own robots at home. The robot he showcased is entirely 3D-printed and currently includes an upper body, dexterous hands, a waist, and a head equipped with binocular vision, all driven by brushless motors. Rex particularly emphasized the unique value of Maker Faire: uncovering creations that are more “playful” and inspiring. He believes this atmosphere sparks creativity and encourages more developers to innovate by building upon open-source projects. In his view, the most fascinating aspect of robotics lies in a robot’s ability to observe, reason about, and understand its environment. Looking ahead, Rex hopes that in two or three years, everyone at the event will be able to experience interacting with robots—not just chatting with AI, but commanding robots to complete tasks through more natural, fluid, and everyday conversational instructions.
