The name itself says that they are in two different locations. Gluteal is in the gluteal region, that is the buttock region. Whereas the perianal is the anal region, around the anus so they are two differently located abscess cavities. Abscess is pus. Whether it is a collection of pus, we call them as abscess. The primary reason for the collection of pus in the gluteal region may be different when compared to the the primary reason for the collection of pus in the perianal region. Perianal region abscess is usually followed by the infective activity of the perianal glands. Normally locate glands which otherwise secrete e mucous into the anal orifice to avoid injury when we evacuate feces or somehow infected and then over that duct which will empty the mucus secretion into the anal canal would have got blocked or it would have got infected and finally form perianal abscess. Gluteal abscess is usually followed by an unsterile technique of intramuscular injection. Earlier injectable or syringes were reused. Medications were of multiple vials. Nowadays injections are available as ampoules. They are used for single use, they are not used for multiple patients also. So the formation of injection abscess in corporate localities or urban set up is comparatively low compared to earlier days.
