This is a very special vitola for Davidoff, since they've only used this shape once before. That was in 2006, for the 100th anniversary special edition. This is an elegant vitola with a refined character, making this blend a little more mellow to experience. The blend itself contains four different Nicaraguan tobaccos, hence this is 100% Nicaraguan, a puro. The wrapper and binder are from Jalapa. Estelí tobacco complements this, with a similar Habano-type lineal stimulation, but one that is way more peppery & potent. You'll feel this spicy pepperiness as the smoke goes through your nose, either when retrohaling or when smelling the smoke. Next, Condega tobacco will stimulate the front centre of your palate, bringing spice and umami. There are also sweet undertones that match foods like foie gras well, and complement the bitter spiciness of the cigar's back. Finally, balance in the blend is achieved with Ometepe tobacco. Ometepe is an island in Lake Nicaragua with two volcanoes, allowing tobacco to grow year-round. Here, we find the winter crop from Ometepe, which is softer and more noble, and stimulates the sides. Because of this, despite the cigar's overall Habano character, you have a little bit of acidity rounding everything out. In terms of progression through thirds, it's a little creamier and softer in the beginning. Throughout the Nicaragua, the flavours travel from the front of your mouth with sweeter notes, moving towards the back. Both the beginning and the later peppery, woody flavours are balanced by acidity on the sides. If you're familiar with Nicaraguan tobacco, Habano-type lineal stimulation, or even Cuban cigars, this is definitely a smoke you'll enjoy. REMEMBER to comment!
