The release of Walt and Tio

Grey seals Walt and Tio both came to the sealcentre in Pieterburen when they lost their mother. Tio at Christmas 2016 and Walt a couple of weeks later. Tio was the first pup to rescue that season and Walt had a surprise for us. Underneath his with baby fur coat he was completely black. Walt is a melanistic seal which is quite rare. No need to say that both seals draw a lot of attentions during their stay at the centre. On april 2nd 2017 both seals were strong enough to be released in their natural habitat. At the Dutch island of Schiermonnikoog they where released, together with some other seals. This short film was made by Fernando Cortez Marques, volunteer at the sealcentre.
