Research IT's training session for students in the Data Science Discovery Program on how to utilize free campus resources to access interactive Python computing resources like Jupyter Notebooks on Savio, the campus’ high performance computing (HPC) cluster. Open OnDemand (OOD) is a web-based interface that simplifies your access to HPC resources. OOD offers a user-friendly platform for submitting, managing, and monitoring your research tasks, eliminating the need for command-line expertise. OOD is designed to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of your research efforts, providing you with a streamlined computing experience. Apps/services on Open OnDemand include: OOD Desktop Jupyter notebooks RStudio MATLAB via a Desktop environment VS Code File browsing Slurm job listing Terminal/shell access (under the "Clusters" tab) This training will provide an overview of the process of how to access your computing allowance, which will guide you through the login procedure, introduce interactive applications like Jupyter Server, walk through job submission and monitoring, and demonstrate effective file management and data transfers. This training aims to equip you with the skills to enhance your research workflow and maximize the potential of OOD.
