These can be due to poor adhesion of the top layer of the cornea with the underlaying layer. The main causes to this are 1) previous mechanical trauma to the eye, corneal abrasion, 2) a corneal dystrophy, 3) dry eyes. Treatments may include artificial tears, dry eye treatment, antibiotic and steroid eye drops, and bandage contact lenses.
