EIGHT seed snails take up the same grow shelf space as one, 60-cell modular tray! In this video I (quietly) experiment with the seed snail method using a silicone baking mat and compare it to the Charles Dowding modular tray system. I cut and roll 8 seed snails, fill them with seed starting mix, plant several flower varieties, and compare size/space with the modular tray. Seeds started in this video: • Stipa gigantea • Coreopsis tinctoria • Dianthus plumarius • Eryngium giganteum • Verbena hastata • Tanacetum niveum • Chrysanthemum Snowland • Iberis umbellata The seed snail method is a compact way to start seeds that can save space and allows more room for roots compared to traditional trays. This video shows the snail roll full process: cutting the material, filling the snails, rolling them, sowing seeds, and comparing them with the modular tray.
