Welcome to a beautiful December tour. It’s a lovely day and there are still some gorgeous vegetables to show — Savoy cabbage, white sprouting, kale, winter salads and lamb’s lettuce. These beds are the result of doing things at different times in the back end of the year, so there’s still plenty of interest now. We’ve been down to –5.6°C here, and that frost has killed the self-seeded marigolds, while some endive has suffered after the unusually warm November weather we had, with daytime temperatures even up to 17°C. There’s a nice little winter store of carrots, and these carrots are feeding the deer now — they’re only eating the greens, not the carrot itself, and that doesn’t matter at this point. In the shed, there’s some lovely celeriac, beetroot and chicory keeping well for winter food. Some broad beans are small and just right to overwinter, while others were sown earlier — like a cover crop — to rot into the ground as they’re killed. Brussels sprouts are looking steady, garlic has had a bit of wood ash against rust, and purple sprouting broccoli is smaller this year after flea beetle, but still looking good. It’s late November and we’re really coming into the quiet time now. There’s no worries about sowing or planting. You can enjoy the garden — it’s a lovely time of year. 🎥 Filmed 28th November 2025 by Nicola Smith 👉🏼 Green Friday Deals - https://shop.charlesdowding.co.uk/col...
