The Kerala Story Movie's Legal Controversy Explained

As we all know about the ongoing controversy about the film "The Kerala Story". The film has been facing a lot of legal challenges owing to the contents and visuals of the same. The legal action against it, can be traced from 2nd May when initially an Interlocutory Application was filed before the Supreme Court in Hate speech case. After the application was dismissed on grounds of "inappropriate remedy" a separate petition was filed on the same day later by an Islamic Organisation. This petition was mentioned for urgent listing on 3rd May by Advocate Vrinda Grover, however the CJI dismissed the same saying that they should invoke the jurisdiction of High Court rather than coming directly to the Supreme Court. While a petition is already ongoing in the Kerala HC seeking a stay on the release, it has been scheduled to be heard on 5th May. The Kerala High Court had also sought the responses from the Centre and the Producers of the film. On 3rd May one more petition was filed in the Madras High Court which was dismissed on 4th May after being listed for early hearing. Although no final decision has been taken as of yet, the matter is currently pending before the Kerala High Court.
