He had an elder brother (Loku Bandara) and two sisters (Tikiri Menike and Dingiri Menike). His uncle was a prominent Udara leader who signed the Udara Agreement in Kandy on March 2, 1815 in Kappetipola District.At that time King Sri Wickramarajasinghe knew that Ehelapola was supporting the rebellion against the British rule while in Sabaragamuwa district.
