I can finally share the results of my recent materials tests! I'm sorry this has taken so long, I initially made these test pots at the very start of a making cycle and I can't fire my kiln when it's practically empty, thus I had to throw hundreds of pots to accompany these. I'm wedging coarse malachite, chunks of tungsten, tourmaline and shards of obsidian into the high-iron stoneware clay body that I work with, thereafter I'll throw each into a small bowl to act as a test vessel. It's safe to say making these pots was a bit of a challenge due to how sharp and large some of the particles were and I can't believe how some of them ended up firing... Experiments like this are always surprising, some work, others create disasters and there's often lacklustre results too. The goal is to find materials that add life and character to the clay and glazes and I love creating these series of videos, so, if you have any ideas of materials I should try, please do let me know! LASTLY, please DON'T use malachite yourself, as in its raw state, when damp or immersed in water, it leaches copper and can be rather toxic to use. Thanks so much for watching and let me know which result you like best!
