A manufacturing company in Herat, Afghanistan, has made significant progress in producing and exporting liquefied gas tankers—an industry that barely existed in the country until recently. Launched two years ago with an investment of $600,000, the company now exports its tankers to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Russia. According to Atiqullah Niazmend, the company’s director, they have signed export contracts worth $750,000 with these three countries. Under the agreement, 30 LNG tankers are being manufactured inside Afghanistan. So far, 17 tankers have already been produced and delivered, while work on the remaining units continues. The factory currently employs 22 workers and produces three tankers each month. Economic experts say regional demand for Afghan-made LNG tankers is rising. However, domestic production capacity remains limited. Export consultant Mardan Jahangiri notes that if Afghan companies could produce up to 100 tankers annually, the market for export would still be strong. He adds that the tankers undergo technical testing abroad and have received positive evaluations for quality and safety. Company officials in Herat say they plan to expand their production line. They currently import their raw materials from Iran. This report highlights a rare success story in Afghanistan’s industrial sector—showcasing the country’s growing potential in regional manufacturing and exports. #AfghanistanIndustry #LNGExports #HeratManufacturing
