The interpretation is the message. Along with György Ligeti, György Kurtág is considered one of the most important Hungarian composers after 1945. His basic philosophy is fascinating. For him it was not the composition or the sounding result itself that was decisive, but above all the interpretation of it. As a result, unlike many of his composer colleagues, he never gave composition lessons, but taught chamber music, piano and interpretation as a lecturer at the Budapest Franz Liszt Academy of Music from 1967 to 1993. This approach has resulted in complex decisions: What does musical notation actually mean for musical practice and for the interpretation of a piece? The musician must always find a basic balance between the seriousness and rigor of the musical text - which was important to Kurtág despite everything - and the freedom of interpretation. This is an aspect that violist Sindy Mohamed particularly likes about the piece "In Nomine - all'ongherese". She greatly appreciates the freedom that Kurtág gives to the interpretation of his works, and sees in this a concrete difference to other works of classical music. In times like these, which make it difficult to make music in community, this character of freedom is even more important to her. She alone can decide on musical interpretation and in her own way she lets a man speak through the viola, who alone on stage holds a monologue - meaningful, emotional, searching.
