Want to know how much American importers and distributers hate you? As I write this, they're not bringing either of these in. Père Labat's around if you look for it (see my review at • Père Labat 59° Rhum Blanc review ), but in general Guadeloupe - often forgotten in the shadow of Martinique further to the south - just isn't well-represented on American shelves. So on this hot Summer's afternoon, let's have a little review session of what we're missing. Stats: Rhum Bielle Blanc (Grand-Bourg, Marie-Galante; bottled circa 2020; 59% ABV), 88/100 Longueteau "le 62" Rhum Blanc (Capesterre-Belle-Eau, Basse-Terre; bottled circa 2020; 62% ABV), 86+/100 The Longueteau is delightful, and a dead ringer for some of the psychedelic olive-and-tomato monsters you'll find in Mexico - or maybe really the other way around. Except, of course, this stuff is bottled stronger. In this context, though, it just can't quite keep up with the Bielle, one of the most beautifully dirty distillates in the world. I reviewed the Capovilla Rhum Rhum offering previously made in this same distillery awhile ago ( • Rhum Rhum PMG Agricole Blanc review ) and TBH this standard offering just buries that. This is one of the silliest QPRs in the world, a kind of Rum Fire for cane juice fans. Yes, that good. Neither of these, I should note, is expensive: you can buy a 700mL of the Longueteau at hazmat strength for thirty Euros, and a full liter of the Bielle (bottled to be nearly as flammable) is about the same. So why isn't anyone bringing either one in again? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
