The Ultimate "No Filter" Aquarium Guide (Walstad Method) Imagine an aquarium that basically runs itself. No loud filters, no expensive chemicals, and almost zero water changes. This is the Walstad Method. In this video, I’m showing you exactly how to build a natural "dirted tank" from scratch. We are using regular organic potting soil to create an ecosystem where the plants do all the heavy lifting—cleaning the water so you don’t have to. 🌱 What is the Walstad Method? Think of it as a slice of nature in a glass box. By putting soil under the gravel, we feed the plants. In return, the heavy plant mass soaks up toxic ammonia and nitrates, acting as a "living filter." It’s the most balanced, low-maintenance way to keep fish. I cover the specific soil layers you need, the best plants to prevent algae on day one, and the lighting schedule you need to succeed. ✅ Materials Used: Tank: [Insert Tank Size, e.g., 5 Gallon / 20 Liter] Base Layer: Organic Potting Soil (Sifted to remove wood chips) Cap Layer: 2-3mm Pea Gravel or Coarse Sand The Plants: Hornwort, Rotala, Vallisneria, and Floating Plants (Essential!) If you’re on a budget or just tired of high-maintenance tanks, this setup is a game changer. 🔔 Enjoyed the build?
