The Jabulani herd is a unique family of 16 elephants—11 orphans and five calves born within the herd over a decade ago. Their journey began with Jabulani, an orphan rescued in 1997, and a group of elephants saved from Zimbabwe in 2002. Over the years, they have opened their hearts to more orphaned calves, offering them a second chance after losing their families to human-wildlife conflict. The herd spends their days roaming and foraging in the bushveld, guided and cared for by a dedicated team—many of whom have been with them since their rescue. At night, they return to the HERD Homestead, situated next to the HERD Orphanage, where younger orphans still in rehabilitation receive extra care and support. Each elephant has its own personality and place in this incredible family, bonded by love, resilience and trust. #everyelephantneedsaherd
