January 30, 2004 - Mehmet Okur's opportunities in Detroit waxed and waned under head coach Larry Brown. Some nights he'd find himself pushing 40 minutes. Other nights, he'd struggle to break the 10-minute mark. In January of 2004, Okur took a liking to punishing the Toronto Raptors. On January 14, Okur dropped 27 points and 14 rebounds in a four-point win over Toronto. In the absence of that footage, the above clip comes from a rematch between the two teams from almost two weeks later, in which Okur picked up where he left off, hitting five of his first six shots in the first quarter en route to a 16-point performance and a 90-89 overtime win. Okur's evening came in the midst of a three game stretch in which he averaged 16.3 points per game on 58.3 shooting from the field. Three weeks later, the Pistons acquired Rasheed Wallace and Okur's prime time opportunity in Detroit had evaporated. Following a run that culminated in an NBA championship, Detroit parted ways with Okur, leading Memo to sign a six-year, $50 million deal with the Utah Jazz. There, he'd blossom into an all-star performer with a penchant for coming through in the clutch, sparking a basketball revitalization in Utah, culminating in a Western Conference Finals run in 2007.
