Montréal | Police Discover Van on Fire While Patrolling St-Laurent Blvd; Firefighters Put It Out

At around 2:30 am on Saturday, April 12, 2025, officers from Montréal Police Department's Station 35 were patrolling the area of Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Bellechasse in the city's Little Italy neighbourhood when they came across an unoccupied Dodge Grand Caravan with an active fire burning inside of it, parked at the curb. Montréal Fire Department Pumper 231 was dispatched to the fire and made quick work of putting it out. The hood latch on the Caravan, however, was a different story—resisting firefighters' efforts to open it for up to 15 minutes. Police, initially suspecting foul play, had closed off access to the "Main" and established a wide perimeter from the start of the intervention. After further analysis, police did not find anything suspicious at the scene and reopened access to Saint-Laurent. The cause of the fire remains unknown. L'autopompe 231 du Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal a été dépêchée sur les lieux et les pompiers ont rapidement maîtrisé l'incendie. Le capot de la Caravan, cependant, a résisté aux efforts des pompiers qui ont tenté de l'ouvrir pendant 15 minutes. La police, qui soupçonnait initialement un acte criminel, a fermé l'accès à la «Main» et a établi un grand périmètre dès le début de l'intervention. Après une vérification plus approfondie, la police n'a rien trouvé de suspect sur les lieux et a rouvert l'accès au boulevard Saint-Laurent. La cause de l'incendie demeure inconnue.
