The Double Temple of Kom Ombo is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Upper Egypt and an essential part of a sightseeing program during a Nile cruise. It is located on the eastern bank of the Nile in Upper Egypt near the city of Aswan in the direction of Luxor. It stands a few meters from the shore, on a hill 15m high above the water surface of the Nile, and is therefore easily visible from a ship on the Nile. The peculiarity of this temple is that, like no other pharaonic temple, it is dedicated to two separate deities, which is why it is called the double temple. One is Sobek, the crocodile god of Egyptian mythology, ruler of water and also fertility god. The other god to whom the temple is dedicated is Haroeris or Great Horus. This is a later manifestation of the god Horus, and from the 18th dynasty he acquired the title 'Father of the Gods'. Therefore, the temple has a common construction pattern: all the gates, passages and rooms are double. It even has two entrances. Around the double temple are the ruins of a small chapel dedicated to the ancient Egyptian goddess Hathor and those of a birthplace, Mammisi. Near the temple of Kom Ombo there is also a crocodile museum, where twenty-two crocodile mummies are exhibited. Crocodile eggs, wooden sarcophagi and crocodile fetuses can also be seen there. Sobek was an ancient Egyptian deity. The statues of Sobek bear a human body and the head of a crocodile.
