Something new with practice of the 8-point salutation of ashtanga pranam which is excellent when building strength to eventually to chaturanga well. Welcome to practice #52 from Calderwood Butte in Peoria, AZ. The practice features Broken Toe Posture, the basics of Ashtanga Pranam, and basic Child's Pose in between. The practice is designed to strengthen our secondary spinal curves. We were all born with a C-shaped spine and through curiosity and exploring our surroundings we began to lift our heads to strengthen cervical extension and then propped on our elbows and eventually pushed up to crawl. So we tuck our toes in this practice to stretch our feet. We explore the 8-point contact of Asthanga Pranam with toes, knees, hands, chest and chin making contact with the mat. We take multiple Child's Poses to stretch and offer modifications. The slide show at the end is typical southern Arizona with Saguaro and cacti and vast views from the Butte we hiked. The sun was strong and beautiful on this particular winter morning. We hope you enjoy! A special thank you to Karl, KFM Designs for the videography and photography slide show at the end of the practice. America is a beautiful nation, and may these photos at the end teleport you to a little piece of this vast and beautiful nation. Namaste, Kathy We welcome everyone to the yoga mat, and encourage you to explore movement and breath as your own pace. The Barefoot in America Practices are a guide for you to explore yoga.
