Another vid from Gloucester this and of a very welcomed new resident, De Havilland Vampire T.11 WZ507 G-VTII. The Vampire was the first single engine jet fighter to enter service in 1946 and second ever British Jet fighter after Gloster Meteor. With its distinctive Twin-boom design, and reliable and easy to maintain Goblin engine, the Vampire quickly proved to be an effective weapon, and served until 1979 with the Rhodesian AF. WZ507 was built in 1952 and was retired from RAF service in 1969. In 1980 she became the first ex-RAF jet to be put onto the UK register as G-VTII. She appeared in the BBC program "The Aerodrome". With the closing of her base (Coventry airport) she and her group of devoted volunteers were re-located to Staverton Gloucester which is fantastic for the likes of myself having a rare (one of only 11 Vampire's and the only T.11 variant flying the world) right at my doorstep almost. So, me and my mate went to see her go up and come back on a showery and biterly cold Sunday afternoon. The Firey start-up from the Goblin was a fantastic catch and lovely loud departure to top it off a fast low run and break for landing. all in a fantastic way to spend afternoon before heading to the pub. Hope you enjoy, sorry about the water on the Lense a lot of rain. Like, comment and subscribe
