I start with a scenic bus ride from Kusatsu to Karuizawa, watching the mountains fade into mist as I travel through rural Japan. From there, I board my very first Shinkansen (bullet train) to Toyama - and yes, the speed, comfort, and experience absolutely blew my mind! In Toyama, I hop onto the charming loop line tram and take a slow ride around the city, soaking in everyday Japanese life beyond the usual tourist trail. Then it’s time to continue deeper into the mountains on a local train to Takayama, a historic town known for its wooden streets and traditional atmosphere.
