(10 May 2010) HEADLINE: Pot activists trying to enlist moms CAPTION: Medical marijuana activists trying to see pot made legal are turning to the nation's most powerful lobby - moms. (May 10) Marijuana activist are now targeting moms in their effort to see pot made legal . One group even encouraged pot smokers to "come out" to their moms with a pot-themed Mother's Day card. The ecard goes on to say "I want to share some news that might surprise you, but should not upset you: I believe marijuana should be legal." Jessica Corrry, co-founder of the Women's Marijuana Movement believes current marijuana laws are unjust, irrational, and detrimental. SOT: Jessica Corrry, co-founder of the Women's Marijuana Movement: "Ultimately when children make mistakes it shouldn't be cops who are playing parents." She had her two children in tow when she went to the state Capitol to speak Colorado lawmakers. Her group argues that pot is safer than booze. SOT: Jessica Corrry, co-founder of the Women's Marijuana Movement: "It's time for our government to wake up and realize we have better opportunities and after 7 decades of a failed multi billion dollar prohibition experiment prohibition has failed." Her group handed out books titled "Marijuana is Safer" to female Colorado lawmakers -- like this one who was confronted while she was eating lunch. Currently, Colorado lawmakers are considering bills to regulate the state's medical marijuana dispensaries. SOT: Colorado Rep. Jeanne Labuda, Democrat: "we're trying to get control over who grows it who can sell it who can receive it." This mom of 2, who works the front desk at a marijuana dispensary in Denver, thinks moms are the best spokespeople for a cause like this. SOT: Angela Obadiah, works at Highland Health Medical Dispensary and Wellness Center: "we are leading the children, usually women are the social aspects in the community. Pulling things together. We are so good at communication.With those skills we have a way to educate people about wellness." There are 11 marijuana dispensaries in the state of Colorado.
