Welcome to the very first episode of my podcasts about Lewes — a town packed with history, character, and more stories than you can shake a Sussex trug at. I’m delighted to be joined by my good friend John Lamb. John’s been in the podcasting saddle with me before, so it felt only right to lure him back for another ride. This time, our focus is on our home town of Lewes — not the textbook version, but the Lewes we remember. We’ll be sharing memories, anecdotes, and those oddly specific moments that somehow stick in the mind for decades. This isn’t a history lesson (there will be no exams at the end!!); think of it more as a rambling stroll through recent history, fuelled by conversation, nostalgia, and the occasional “do you remember when…?” Our route starts at the Lewes Prison crossroads and wanders along Western Road, down St Anne’s Hill, through the High Street and School Hill — with a few inevitable detours along the way, because no good walk (or conversation) in Lewes ever sticks strictly to the plan.
